BS 8555 Acorn Scheme
If you need to demonstrate certified commitment to environmental improvement or simply want to improve environmental performance, the IEMA Acorn Scheme allows you to do so in a series of logical steps, and achieve certified recognition after each phase.
The scheme comprises five phases, requiring participants to implement the achievement criteria and stage profiles for each of the phases of BS 8555, a defined and logical British Standard which sets out the different steps for implementing a formal EMS, eg ISO 14001 or EMAS.
How can the IEMA Acorn Scheme benefit my organisation?
- Convenient phase-based system - ideal for small/medium sized businesses. A company can implement environmental management policy in stages, stop at a level that meets its specific needs and so reduce cost, time and administration.
- Provides demonstrable commitment to environmental protection and improvement through phased certification and right to use IEMA and LRQA logos on corporate materials. Adoption of the scheme shows corporate and social responsibility to existing customers, prospective customers, shareholders, general public, etc.
- Listing on IEMA Acorn Register, a central source of key data on all organisations participating in the scheme, with retention on list guaranteed upon successful annual re-inspection. The Register will provide an excellent means of highlighting organisations’ environmental credentials. It will also act as a valuable locator tool for customers wanting to source suppliers who have demonstrated environmental performance improvement.
