BRC Global Standard for Storage and Distribution
The introduction of the Storage and Distribution Standard is relevant to those organisations involved in the storing and/or distribution of food, consumer goods and packaging materials. It's applicable to all forms of transportation and provides a framework for best practice.
How can certification benefit my organisation?
The publication of the Storage and Distribution Standard now allows each of the organisations involved in the supply chain from point of production to retail to benefit from independent audit.
The Standard is risk based with a strong emphasis on Hazard and Risk Analysis to identify and manage potential product safety risks and there is a requirement for a documented quality management system. This is supplemented with particular best practice requirements for managing the operation, the conditions of any storage site and site personnel.
There are separate modules for the different sectors within the supply chain including Storage, Distribution, Wholesaling and Contracted specialist services. Organisations can be certified against some or all of the modules depending on their business. However, the Wholesaling and Contracted Services modules always need to be applied in association with Storage modules.
