OHSAS Foundation Analysis
The OHSAS Foundation Analysis provides basic awareness of employers’ H&S obligations and direction to enable organisations comply with management system standards such as OHSAS 18001. It also provides a framework to address the basic requirements of Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) legislation.
How can this benefit my organisation?
If your formal OHS management system is in its early stages, this assessor-delivered activity identifies areas that need developing to create a certifiable system. It looks at how existing management systems or procedures can be used within OHSAS 18001 and you will be left with a report identifying any gaps in your OHS management system as a first step to achieving approval to the Standard.
The OHSAS Foundation Analysis encourages management commitment, assists with scoping and defining H&S Policy, developing a risk assessment check-list, identifying relevant legal requirements and the records necessary to demonstrate compliance, plus assists identification of any H&S procedures that may be required.
The Foundation Analysis acts as the ideal introduction to BS OHSAS 18001 whose benefits include:- Legislation/staying within the law: Avoiding the cost, stigma and adverse publicity of a criminal prosecution. Potential reductions in liability claims and lower insurance premiums.
- Protecting your people: A structured approach to hazard identification and risk management contributes to a healthier and saferworking environment, minimising accidents and occupational health problems. This should help reduce lost time through employee illness and injury.
- Improved basic awareness: For those organisations whose formal OHS management system is in its early stages, this assessor-delivered activity will identify those areas that need developing in order to create a certifable system. It will also look at how existing management systems or procedures can be used within OHSAS 18001 and H&S legislation.
