LRQA appoints new Technical Manager for medical device directives

LRQA continues to expand their medical device directives expertise with the recent appointment of John Howlett as Medical Devices Technical Manager.

John joins us after a long career at BSI where he was the medical device directives’ Head of Notified body for more than 10 years.

John is widely recognised for his expertise within the medical devices industry. In 2012, he was selected as an expert witness in the UK’s House of Commons Select Committee enquiry into the regulation of medical implants in the EU and UK.

He has also participated in a wide range of range of European and UK medical device committees and has been actively involved in the review and implementation of the medical device directives and associated guidance documents.

LRQA is a leading notified body for CE Marking to the Medical Devices Directive (MDD) and In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Medical Devices Directive helping organisations to ensure their devices consistently meet regulatory requirements. LRQA has established an in-depth knowledge and understanding of certification within the medical device sector since 1994.

Commenting on the new appointment, Martin Penver, LRQA’s Head of Notified Body said: “This is a high profile new appointment that comes at a time of growth for the medical devices unit within LRQA.”

“I previously worked for John, and his practical application and approach within the medical devices sector is similar to LRQA’s Business Assurance methodology. He has a wealth of knowledge and is respected across all notified bodies within the European medical device sector.”
