LRQA's Account Manager, Lionel Westall was on hand to formally present the ISO 14001 certificate to the UK's largest plastic bottle recycler, ECO Plastics at a recent event.
“We' delighted to have been awarded ISO 14001. As a clean technology business, sustainability is clearly crucial for us. Our certification demonstrates that not only do we produce low-carbon plastics, we are also looking at ways to minimise our own environmental impact,” comments Dave Jarvis, Health, Safety, Environment and Fire Manager.
“Because ISO 14001 places particular emphasis on ongoing improvement, we'll continue to look for ways to promote environmental protection, resource conservation and improved efficiencies in our everyday business.”
ECO Plastics' site in Hemswell, Lincolnshire is the largest plastic bottle recycling plant in Europe capable of processing more than 100,000 tonnes of material a year.
Earlier this year, the business announced that it was going to more than double its food-grade recycling capacity following the signing of a 10-year agreement with Coca-Cola Enterprises. This will see ECO Plastics providing the global soft drinks manufacturer with enough recycled plastic to ensure its PET bottles contain up to 25% recycled content during 2012.
ECO Plastics operate Europe's largest and most technically advanced Mixed Plastic Bottle sorting facility and are the largest producer of 'food grade' quality rPET pellet within the UK.
