KPI achieves Responsible Care 14001® certification

Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI), the international marketing arm of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) one of the world’s leading energy conglomerates, has achieved Responsible Care 14001® certification from LRQA UK for its Corporate SSHE operations, in their Operating Units in North West Europe, IDS and Kuwait Petroleum Research and Technology.

The organisation wanted to be one of the first in the oil and gas downstream industry to gain the certification which broadens the scope of the ISO 14001 EMS standard to incorporate aspects of health, safety and security. Previously KPI had separate certifications to ISO 14001, however wanted to bring these together under a single umbrella certification.

KPI Regional SHE Manager, Mauro Calo who leads the project to secure certification said: “We are delighted to have achieved RC 14001® with LRQA who were able to offer a pragmatic solution to providing ISO 14001 group-wide certification including the requirements of the Responsible Care scheme.

“We started to work on this project in summer 2013 and have adapted our safety, security, health and environmental management system to meet the extended requirements,” Mauro concludes.
