Following the recent publication of International Quality Management System (QMS) standard ISO 9001:2015, the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) have announced that the AS 9100 series will be revised in order to align with ISO 9001 and the new high level structure of Annex SL.
The 9100 series is made up of a number of standards which use AS 9100 as the baseline. The full series includes:
- AS 9100 – QMS requirements for Aviation, Space and Defence organisations
- AS 9110 – QMS requirements for Aviation Maintenance organisations
- AS 9115 - QMS requirements for Aviation, Space and Defence organisations (Deliverable Software)
- AS 9120 – QMS requirements for Aviation, Space and Defence Distributors
Based on the revisions to ISO 9001:2015, there are over 100 additional requirements which need to be accounted for in the 9100 revision process and the IAQG ballot is expected in December 2015 with publication expected in April 2016.
Organisations that currently hold certification against a standard in the 9100 series will need to complete their transition to any revised standard by September 2018 which is aligned with the transition deadline for organisations currently certified against ISO 9001:2008.
Further information about the revisions can be found on the IAQG website.
To support organisations worldwide, LRQA offers a range of assessment services as well public and in-house training courses, all aimed at helping to ensure a smooth transition to the new standards.
