ISO Standards Update: LRQA discusses ISO 14001:2015 at the IEMA EMS Forum

This week, the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) held a forum in Manchester, England where industry practitioners and environmental specialists from a wide range of sectors gathered to discuss the newly revised international Environmental Management System (EMS) standard, ISO 14001:2015.

LRQA’s System and Governance Manager, Steve Williams took to the main stage during the forum to address a packed room with over 100 delegates to discuss areas of focus for external auditors.

Speaking of the forum Steve said, “We took the decision to open up the session to the audience which gave an opportunity for them to ask about the key issues faced by their organisations. It is clear that organisations have a deep understanding of ISO 14001:2015 but there were two areas that raised the most questions over the course of the conference; Control & Influence and Leadership.”

Steve went on to discuss Leadership further, “Both external and internal auditors need to be prepared to question their senior management representatives and if necessary, raise non-conformities. If these non-conformities show that there is a risk to the business then senior management will not view them negatively, but they will be seen as an opportunity to drive continuous improvement throughout their organisation.”
