LRQA verifies BT’s latest Sustainability reports
LRQA has verified BT Group's 2007 sustainability reports ‘Changing world: Sustained values’ printed report and its web-based ‘Sustainability Report 2007’ against AccountAbility’s Assurance Standard, AA1000 AS, the globally recognised assurance standard.
Over an 8-week period, LRQA aimed to establish whether the BT report met the criteria of AA1000 AS and is ‘in accordance’ with the Global Reporting Initiative Sustainability Reporting Guidelines (GRI) and its Telecommunications Sector Supplement.
“This is the 4th consecutive year that we have undertaken the verification against this recognised assurance standard. It provides valuable assurance to BT’s stakeholders that this company has considered all of its sustainability aspects appropriate to their business,” comments Ted Rosser, LRQA assessor.
LRQA’s assurance looked at how BT engages with its stakeholders and determined those issues on which BT need respond. Our process then verified the accuracy and reliability of data and information disclosed; through interviews with BT employees and reviewing supporting documentary evidence. LRQA found that both BT reports had no material omissions in their coverage and are appropriate for reporting social and environmental performance.
The full details of BT’s performance and progress achieved during the 2006/07 financial year is available online together with the assurance statement on www.btplc.com/Societyandenvironment
