Prism - your Progressive Route into Systems Management
PRISM allows you to build and combine additional certified management systems with your existing ISO 9001 quality management system (QMS) at your own pace using available resource. Achieved by implementing the extra systems in a series of six Steps leading to certification, each one is formally recognised by LRQA enabling you to demonstrate your commitment.
How can PRISM benefit my organisation?
As we work with you during system development, you will gain valuable feedback on how to improve the new elements of your system, and the effectiveness of your existing system.
Step 1 costs you nothing and takes no more than one hour during a routine ISO 9001 surveillance visit. At each subsequent PRISM visit, subject to a successful assessment , we will issue you with an updated Statement of Commitment towards ISO 14001 and/or OHSAS 18001. After successful completion of Step 6, we will issue you with full ISO 14001 and/or OHSAS 18001 certification. Approval to each Step will be valid for one year from the date of assessment.
Your next step
You will need to hold ISO 9001 certification with LRQA or be willing to transfer your current certificate to us which we can do so at 'no extra charge' to you. Companies can choose to include either Environmental (ISO 14001) or Occupational Health and Safety (OHSAS 18001), or both.
Your assessor will then work with you on a different part of the additional system(s) at each visit as part of an extended ISO 9001 surveillance visit duration. After six Steps, you can achieve certification to ISO 14001 and/or OHSAS 18001, assuming no outstanding major non-conformances.

“I’ve always believed in the value of integrated systems but never had the opportunity to develop one. When I heard about PRISM, I felt this was a real opportunity to introduce a new system in a controlled, manageable way. We also get the additional benefit of having an interim certificate to demonstrate our commitment to our customers, of whom more and more require us to have, or be working towards, ISO 14001.
By establishing an integrated system, my company is looking to be able to reduce its overall business costs and be perceived by its existing and prospective customers as a responsible organisation.”
Geoff Hall, QHSE Supervisor.
James Troop & Company Ltd supplies, installs and services industrial and marine diesel engines and generator sets, employs 28 people and has signed up to our Stage 2, PRISM 14001.
“We’ve thought about OHSAS for a number of years but it’s always seemed a step too far. PRISM offers us the opportunity to take a tiered approach to certification to OHSAS 18001.
While we’ve covered some of the requirements of the standard very well, we haven’t covered all elements in the same way. By adopting PRISM, it means we’ll be taking a far more structured approach to the management of our risks.”
Peter Wall, QSHE Manager
