In October 2016, the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) published a revised Quality Management System (QMS) standard specifically for the automotive industry, known as IATF 16949:2016.
IATF 16949:2016 is aligned with and refers to the most recent version of ISO’s international QMS standard, ISO 9001:2015, fully respecting its structure and requirements. It is not a standalone quality management standard, but is implemented as a supplement to, and in conjunction with, ISO 9001:2015. This means that an organisation in the automotive sector, seeking IATF 16949:2016 certification, must also comply with ISO 9001:2015.
These FAQs address some of the most frequently asked questions in relation to IATF 16949:2016 and what organisations operating in the automotive sector should be thinking about when transitioning to the new standard.
