BS 25999 certification

BS 25999, the business continuity management system standard provides best practice principles for organisations wanting to better manage their risks and protect their assets. It is appropriate to all sizes and types of organisations throughout the public, private and voluntary sectors.

The BS 25999 standard is in two parts with Part 1, the code of practice giving guidelines and recommendations to organisations. It became the fastest selling standard on the market at the time indicating the keen interest in business continuity.

LRQA business continuity specialists were involved in the development of BS 25999 Part 2: Specification. Published in 2007 and building on the principles outline in Part 1, the specification provides an assessable framework for building organisational resilience allowing organisations to become externally assessed and gain certification.

How can BS 25999 benefit my organisation?

Using industry best practice guide as a foundation, the standard has been introduced specifically to enable you to understand, develop and implement a structured and formalised Business Continuity Management system which will help minimise risk and so the chance of disruption to your organisation.

An independent assessment from LRQA enables you to demonstrate to stakeholders that your business continuity capability is appropriate to the size and complexity of your organisation. It goes without saying that having the right people to deliver the service is critical. Our assessors have all undergone BCI-accredited training which is a crucial element in our ability to provide a high quality assessment.

Implementing a business continuity management system gives you specific benefits such as:

  • increased resilience when faced with organisational threat
  • improved competence to maintain critical business services through action plan rehearsal
  • enhanced capability to handle disruption and protect brand reputation when integrated with business planning.
