DMA DataSeal certification
DataSeal is the The Direct Marketing Association’s UK-wide standard for data security in the marketing industry.
Available to members of the Direct Marketing Association and related participating trade associations such as the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising, Institute of Promotional Marketing and the ISBA, the DataSeal Standard is applicable to those organisations involved in the use, storage or transfer of personal data.
With the issue of information security rising up the corporate agenda, certification to DataSeal is one way in which organisations can help demonstrate they have the right controls in place to protect personal data. This is key in assuring clients, trading partners and other stakeholders that you take data security seriously.
LRQA has been appointed as the sole provider of auditing services to the DMA’s DataSeal Standard with effect from December 2011.
How can DataSeal benefit my organisation?
Choosing to become certified to the DataSeal Standard is a cost effective and achievable way of letting the people you work with know that you take data security seriously.
If you are a supplier, it can potentially reduce both the number and frequency of second party security checks which means less disruption to day-to-day business. And importantly, it reduces the risk of data loss or its misuse with the subsequent poor publicity and damage to reputation and brand.
The DMA will actively promote DataSeal to users of marketing services as a prerequisite when selecting service providers. This means that certification will give your organisation a potential advantage over non-certified competitors.
For many clients, certification to the DMA Standard will be sufficient however many others may use it as a step towards gaining full registration to ISO 27001, the internationally recognised information security management system standard.
Whatever your security objectives are, LRQA is on hand to guide you in the right direction. Our information security experts are already providing accredited certification to ISO 27001, and have the experience and knowledge to give a thorough and objective audit. This will help give you increased confidence in your own security measures.
