BS 10500

BS 10500 is designed to help organisations to prove to both internal and external stakeholders that they have robust anti-bribery practices in place and that they are being implemented adequately.

The UK Bribery Act 2010, which became law in July 2011, introduced anti-corruption laws including a new offence of “failure of a commercial organisation to prevent bribery”. This led to a surge of interest in systems and standards that could act as a defence for those at risk, resulting in BS 10500 (released Nov 2011).

BS 10500 has received a powerful declaration of support with official endorsement from the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (representing 15,000,000 engineers in national engineering organisations worldwide).

We expect proven anti-bribery procedures to become a requirement in many Invitation To Tender processes in future, much as they are now for Quality, Health & Safety and Environment. Most responsible organisations would wish to show this anyway and this is exactly what a BS 10500-certificated ABMS provides.

The specification is appropriate for use by the private, public and voluntary sectors. It is applicable to all organisations, particularly those in the construction, engineering, defence, mining and utilities sectors.

How can BS 10500 benefit my organisation?

Implementing an ABMS built and certificated around BS 10500 will help ensure you have included everything necessary to transform the Bribery Act’s legislation into practical policies, processes and procedures. Maintaining compliance via a full management system will then help you to identify risks earlier and to continually manage and improve your anti-bribery practices over time.

Need to know more?

Written in direct response to the UK Bribery Act 2010, this standard is attracting a lot of attention from organisations looking to ensure they stay compliant with the legislation.
