PAS 2050:2008

This Publicly Available Specification has been developed to provide a consistent and repeatable method for assessing the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of products and services. From the assessment, organisations can identify the emission 'hot spots' in their production processes and supply chain and take action to reduce them.

Third party, independent, accredited certification from LRQA will provide your organisation with the assurance that they have fully conformed to the requirements of the PAS and that the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions calculation is valid. This information can then be communicated to stakeholders with confidence.

How can PAS 2050 benefit my organisation?

PAS 2050 has been developed to provide a consistent and reproducible method for assessing the life cycle carbon footprint of products. It gives valuable data to allow you to make informed decisions on sourcing alternative raw materials and suppliers, and evaluating different production methods and product configurations.

It is supported by a complementary, practical implementation guide, explaining how carbon footprints of products can be assessed across their entire life cycle.

In addition, a Code of Good Practice (CoGP) has been developed to promote reductions in product carbon footprints and assist those organisations that intend communicating their product GHG emissions and reduction claims to stakeholders. PAS 2050, the implementation Guide and the Code of Good Practice are all available free of charge from the Carbon Trust and DEFRA websites.
