IRIS
IRIS has been developed as an ISO 9001 based standard with additional elements required by the rail industry. It is promoted and administered by UNIFE (Association of European Railway Industries) and applies to rolling stock manufacturers and their suppliers.
Certification to IRIS will replace individual quality and business management systems certification by the founders of this initiative - Alstom Transport, AnsaldoBreda, Siemens Transportation and Bombardier Transportation. This will have significant benefits in helping reduce or eliminate multiple assessments with the additional benefits of reduction in disruption to the business, associated paperwork and costs.
Last revised in June 2009, LRQA now provides accredited certification to Rev. 02. This latest version brings IRIS in line with the most recent version of the QMS standard, ISO 9001:2008 and also takes into account the needs of rail operators, system integrators and equipment manufacturers who contributed to the development of the Standard.
How can IRIS benefit my organisation?
Certification to this rail industry standard by a recognised body such as LRQA will mean:
- a globally recognised certificate
- integrated certification to both ISO 9001 and IRIS
- commercial benefit as all those companies certified to IRIS will be included in a UNIFE data base, used by buyers at major railway industry manufacturers
- integrated audits with other standards is easier as IRIS shares the ISO 9001 platform with other standards, (ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14001)
LRQA provides a range of assessment and certification services for organisations needing to become certified to IRIS including:
- an optional gap analysis to assess your existing quality management system and let you know how it stacks up against the IRIS requirements
- the formal certification visit
- surveillance visits to ensure your system continues to meet the requirements of IRIS
- as IRIS shares the ISO 9001 platform with other standards, integrated audits with those standards (ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14001, AS9100) are also possible.
