1. NP Aerospace - The problem, The training 2. The outcome, The future |
NP Aerospace is one of the largest thermosetting moulding companies in Europe. They manufacture an extensive range of products in engineering thermoset and composite materials for a wide variety of customers in the Aerospace, Electrical, Automotive, Defence and Textile Industries.
The Problem
Currently certificated to ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004, NP Aerospace wished to improve the basic auditing skills of their employees. They were in a situation where they had a very limited number of auditors who could audit to Quality ISO 9001 and Environmental ISO 14001 standards.
Their Quality Manager felt that he needed to increase the numbers within the auditing team. He also wished to ensure that all departments were well represented with trained auditors.
NPA came to LRQA Training based on our reputation for delivering high quality training courses and had previously had highly positive training experiences. LRQA’s comprehensive Account Manager’s made certain that NP aerospace were advised accurately making certain that they embarked upon the most appropriate training pathway and achieved their objectives.

Courses delivered by Albert Fessey, Doug Hodson, Mike McDonald and Tim Dove
With the aid of our LRQA Training Account Manager Jennifer Clarke, NP Aerospace decided to embark upon a pathway of 6 training courses with LRQA Training.
- The first course delivered was an Internal QMS Auditor course in January 2010, which gave multiple employees, with a brief understanding of ISO 9001, further understanding of internal auditing to this standard. An additional Auditor course was delivered in July 2011
NPA also understood that they also needed greater knowledge of auditing to the Environmental ISO14001 standard.
- LRQA delivered an ISO 14001 Appreciation and Interpretation to NPA delegates in August.
- This foundation course was then followed up with an Internal EMS Auditor course in October and November.
In January 2011 NP Aerospace also completed an ISO 27001 Implementation as they wanted to improve the information security within the organisation. The course was split into three days to ensure minimal impact to the organisation whilst training multiple employees.
The Outcome:
“All attendees successfully passed the courses. The courses were of solid structure and the trainers had exceptional knowledge. The clarity and presentation techniques of both trainers were very good. They were able to maintain interest in what can be a mundane subject. All the candidates have now successfully carried out a number of internal audits and are growing in confidence.”
NP Aerospace now has over 30 internal auditors, allowing them to effectively carry out internal, ongoing, regular appraisal of the quality and environmental management systems and company operations. This has streamlined their procedures and saved them a large amount of time and thereby freeing up time for other things.
